Hat's off to the vintage sellers
I've met over the past year. How do you all do this and keep your sanity
intact??
I was very naive when I started my
Etsy shop, Rose City Lady Vintage , thinking 'this will be
easy, I don't have to make anything'. Please, vintage sellers, accept
my sincere apology for having this haughty attitude. Researching
vintage items is HARD work, and takes a lot of time and knowledge. For me it
was like going to school again. I think I have about 100 bookmarks for
vintage research subjects. It also takes a keen eye for fashion trends to
create a fabulous look with vintage clothing (that's why you don't see clothing
items in my shop).
I have a new admiration for vintage
shop owners, both online and brick & mortar. Here's a sampling of some of
my favorite shops. Click on the shop name to browse their stores:
Here's looking at you with these
cool shades from Pretty Duzz on Etsy.
She also creates lovely new jewelry
from old vintage pieces.
Another Etsy shop, Lola Vintage,
with the cutest dress I could never wear.
There's plenty to choose from so
I'm sure I could find something that fits (shoes!)
I love the color of this 1950's melamine dish from Etsy
seller By The Wayside.
She has more pieces to match this
one, too.
Fuzzybellas on Etsy has awesome
ethnic and bohemian clothing, among other styles.
Give yourself plenty of time to
window shop here.
"Set of three books about
tough women who don't take any crap"
Perfect
description, love this Etsy shop's name too :)
After a little over a year of
selling vintage on Etsy, I've done pretty well I think.
However, I'm ready to "retire" from researching items, identifying
hallmarks and creating photo shoot "scenes" to make the pieces more
attractive (would you buy a vintage teacup set that just sits there by itself,
or would you buy one that looks fabulous on a lace covered table in a corner window
next to a stack of books?).
I'll be closing my shop, hopefully
after the big rush to buy out my inventory! Stop by and browse if you like, the
shop will stay open for a while and everything will remain on sale at 40% off.
I plan to focus on my art and other Etsy shop, LaughingFridge, so stay tuned...
AND.....If you're a
vintage shop owner and want to barter, please contact me via my Etsy shop or
leave a comment here :)
